I am HUGE fan of black and white photography, especially for portraits, candid lifestyle photos and nature landscapes. Many years ago, I took a black and white photography workshop that focused on finding the right shadows and contrast that make an image pop. It was in incredible experience that taught me to see compositions that work for both color and black and white imagery. Shooting in open light without shade can be really tricky, which makes beach portraits challenging on cloudless days. The way the sun hits the sand and bounces off the waves can create an intense but pleasing combination of shadows, reflections and contrast that are perfect for monochrome pictures. As much as I love these family pictures in full color.....there's something about the BW's that make them feel a little extra special and timeless!
