Both photo paper types have a Standard Archival Value of 100 years for in home display.
A lustre print surface coating can be added for extra protection against UV light, fingerprints, and dust. This coating is environmentally friendly an gives the finished print a rich glossy sheen.

If you choose not to add a mat or glass, you must indicate the back mounting you'd like.
Depending upon the size, your framed prints will have an easel back, wire hanger, or sawtooth bracket hanging option. Composite frames are finished off with a brown paper backing. Metal frames do not have a brown paper backing. Framed nature and landscape pictures arrive ready to hang on display!

Many of my portrait photography clients ask similar questions when they inquire about a photoshoot. In this blog post, I highlight the most frequently asked questions I receive and the answers.
1. How much does a photo session cost? |
Professional photography fees vary throughout the country and every photographer sets their own fees for each genre they shoot. Click on the Investment + Booking links above to view my photo service fees for family, high school senior, maternity and engagement photoshoot. Both 30-minute mini sessions and standard 60-minute photoshoots are available. My service and product fees are separate. Photo products are purchased a la Carte with no minimum ordering requirements. In 2021, I introduced three print package options.
|
2. Can you recommend an outdoor location for our portrait session? |
Yes! There are so many great places to take pictures outdoors near me. Go here to view Outdoor Locations for Portrait Photoshoots in eastern Massachusetts, including Cape Cod. I love when clients share their session location ideas too.
|
3. What is your photography style? |
My photography style is a combination of creative modern portraits and lifestyle photography. Some clients hire me to take traditional portraits where everyone is looking at the camera. Others hire me to capture mostly candid shots with a few traditional images mixed in. I enjoy both styles equally! You can explore my portfolio galleries above.
|
4. What is the best time of day for a picture session? |
As a rule of thumb, two to three hours after sunrise and before sunset offer the best lighting for outdoor portrait photography. I use the website time and date to plan my session times throughout the year.
|
5. Can I bring my dog to the photoshoot? |
Yes! and... maybe? Your dog is welcome to join our session provided that you book a 60-minute photoshoot and the session location allows dogs on their property. Photographing families with dogs naturally requires more time and a 30-minute session is not long enough.
|
6. What happens if there's bad weather on our session day? |
Living in New England means living with unpredictable weather. If rain is in the forecast, I will make the call to proceed or reschedule the session 1-2 hours before the start time. No one wants soggy wet feet and clothes while having their pictures taken, so 99% of the time we will reschedule for the next available date. Dark stormy cloud covered days with or without rain produce poor light quality for photography. I often reschedule on those days too.
|
7. How should I dress my family for the pictures? |
This is a common question most photographers are asked! Go here to read about:
|
8. When can I expect to see my pictures? |
Fully edited images are ready 5-10 days after the photo session. A private online viewing gallery is provided as part of the service fee.
|
9. Do you offer photo retouching? |
Yes, light retouching is part of my editing process. Some retouching examples include, to remove a stray hair, a spot on a shirt etc. I will not edit images to reduce the look of cellulite, make someone appear thinner, remove braces, change clothing colors etc. Acne retouching is available for an additional fee.
|
10. What should I bring with me to the photoshoot? |
I advise my clients to bring any props they want to include in their pictures (ex. a toy, high school senior diploma, a musical instrument etc.). I also recommend bringing a snack, a drink, bug spray and hairspray to tame static hair.

Senior year is such a busy time, you use a checklist for every fun event. As a senior photographer, I understand the importance of calendar management. In this blog post, I give specific planning tips for creating an optimal timeline and checklist for your senior photoshoot. Number one on the list is hiring your senior photographer. Before you do so, you will need some information from your high school:
Some schools require a formal headshot portrait with a solid background while others may allow a casual lifestyle portrait with a nature backdrop.
Book your photographer well in advance, so you can be sure to meet your yearbook deadline! Ask your friends and family for recommendations. Google "senior photographers near me", for an easy way to see a list of local photographers in your area. Review several photographer's websites to learn about their services, session pricing and information about the digital collections and print products they offer. Also, be sure to look at their senior gallery to see examples of their pictures and shooting style.
The days leading up to your senior picture session will go by in a blur. Use the following tips to create your own custom checklist and stay organized. You might want to have a plan for what to do the month before, the week and day before as well as the day of your photoshoot.
|
The sooner you book the better, especially if you need a weekend session. Many senior photographers book months in advance. |
|
Schedule your haircut appointment for no later than two weeks before your session. The two week cushion will allow your hair to grow out a little. |
|
If you want your hair to be professionally styled for your senior pictures, be sure to book an appointment well in advance. |
|
Shop in your own closet and then think about what you might need to complete an outfit. |
|
Poses should look and feel natural. Look around for examples. Check your photographer's senior gallery, Pinterest, and your friend's senior pictures for inspiration. Your photographer will have lots of ideas and will help guide you. |
|
Do not get sunburned or get highly visible tan lines. You will look red or orange in your pictures. |
|
Think about your outfits in relationship to the poses you like. Will they work together? For example, squatting in a shorter length dress won't work. Set a reminder in your phone to share your favorite poses with your photographer. |
|
Lay your clothes out on the bed with accessories + shoes and adjust, if needed. Then try them on to make sure they fit properly. Clothes that are too baggy or too tight will make you fidget and distract you. |
|
It is nearly impossible to edit wrinkly clothes without compromising the image quality. Arrive to the session as wrinkle-free as possible. |
|
Your nails will show in pictures, make sure they look nice. Either keep them bare or add some gloss or a coordinating nail polish. |
|
Shoes will show in wide shot pictures. |
|
Staying hydrated for the best skin. Use some moisturize too. |
|
You don't want to be late! |
|
|
This one is for both girls and guys. |
|
You might consider bringing these with you to the photoshoot:
|
|
Don't be hangry! Be sure to eat something just before the session and then brush your teeth after. |
|
If you are going to wear makeup, apply it an hour or so before your session to keep it fresh looking. |
|
I created this free printable senior pictures checklist as an organization tool and reference. It covers all the tips and timelines I talked about in this blog post. Click on the image to view and print a copy!

My family portrait photography clients often ask me what they should wear for their photoshoot. Choosing color schemes and coordinating outfits is easy for many clients and a little challenging for others. That is why I am sharing my best advice and general styling tips for choosing the best colors for your family pictures. Consider these questions as you start planning your wardrobe:
It is a good idea to think about the wall colors in your home as you plan your photoshoot outfits. You will want the colors in your family pictures to coordinate, not clash with your walls.
Selecting a clothing color palette for your family session always comes down to personal preference. Just like with home decor, some people naturally gravitate towards bright, bold colors while others stick with muted or earthy tones.
Neutrals |
Accent Colors |
|
Neutral colors are a wardrobe staple for many people. Common clothing colors are black, white, ivory, beige, caramel, grey, navy blue and blush pink/nude. Denim is also considered a fashion neutral. This color family can be easily paired with soft palettes, rich and deeper tones and many brights. Some people use neutrals to create a completely monochromatic look while others use them as the foundation piece in their outfit. |
Accent colors give your outfit a boost! They can be used as the main color(s) in your outfit or as a simple "POP".
|
Photo Tip! If you would like to wear white in your family pictures, add a colorful layering piece on top, like a sweater or scarf. White, black, and dark navy-blue garments worn around your face can create too much contrast and washout a portrait. Consider wearing darker colors on the bottom half of your body instead.
This chart shows examples of clothing color combinations that pair well together.
|
Clothing colors that look great in the spring and summer months do not usually look best in the fall and winter and vice versa. Wear in-season colors within your chosen color palette. Also, consider how the colors will look against the outdoor background in your pictures.
All the colors in your crayon box are represented in spring and summer outfit color palettes! Soft pretty pastels, light and airy classic neutrals and juicy, vibrant, punchy summery color shades. There are so many color combinations for your family outfits it is hard to choose. Here are a few classics + some trendy combos for 2021:
SPRING COMBOS | SUMMER COMBOS |
BLUSH/NUDE + LT. DENIM + DARK PINK |
TURQUOISE + RED + WHITE |
MINT + NAVY + PINK + GREY |
PALE BLUE + PINK + FADED DENIM |
MARIGOLD + RUST + CERULEAN BLUE |
FRENCH BLUE + MARIGOLD + LT. GREEN {2021 fashion trend} |
Fall and winter family outfit colors are simply divine! Gorgeous earth tones and autumn berry colors are just some of the possibilities for fall clothing. Winter jewel tones are some of my personal favorites like, amethyst purple, ruby red and sapphire blue.
FALL COMBOS | WINTER COMBOS |
YELLOW + GREY + DENIM |
VIOLET + TEAL + GREY |
RICH PLUM + CARAMEL + IVORY |
FUCHSIA + PEBBLE GREY + SAPPHIRE |
NAVY + IVORY + GREY + OLIVE {2021 fashion trend} |
MAGENTA PURPLE + PEACH NOUGAT |

One exceptionally large family picture will make a bold wall statement in any room!
A grid or checkerboard pattern wall layout is a simple way to showcase a lot of canvas pieces or framed prints. The key to this symmetrical wall display is to feature artwork that is all the same size. Landscape, square and vertical print orientations can all be easily hung in a grid pattern.
You can use this layout to hang a mixed collection of old and new family pictures, black and white and color print combos, groups of photos from a special event like a wedding, religious celebration, family party etc. The display example above features nine prints from a family lifestyle photography session.
To create a relaxed, casual art display, try leaning a large framed senior portrait, family picture or canvas against a wall. Position it directly on the floor next to a sofa or bed. Then try leaning the same picture on a low shelf or table to see which visual display you like best.
Wall art displayed in a horizontal row is aesthetically pleasing to most people. We naturally scan a room or wall from left to right just like we read a book. A row of pictures is easy to view and the simple layout will work above most furniture in your home.
Art displayed in vertical columns can be just as impactful. Do you have a skinny wall to fill? How would a column of pictures look in that space? Try it!
5. Create an asymmetrical family photo gallery wall
There are endless ways to create a classic asymmetrical photo gallery wall display! This example features both vertical and horizontal prints in three different print sizes.

Earlier this month, I hosted my annual 30-minute fall family mini photo sessions. The Wayside Inn Grist Mill was buzzing with leaf peepers, photographers and families soaking up the warmish weather and beautiful fall foliage. Luckily, there is plenty of room to enjoy a picnic, nature walk or a portrait session at a social distance. As a portrait photographer, I am always on the lookout for outdoor places to meet my clients. This is one of my top locations for portraits! In addition to the historic grist mill, the property offers several rustic nature backdrops for pictures and that day, the October fall colors were on full display! These are some favorite shots from Erin's family session.
In this corner of the property, the late-afternoon sunlight illuminates the trees and trails along the grass. It creates this beautiful backlight and bokeh (blurry circles) in portraits.
Capturing a child's authentic smile is easy when they are having fun. I asked him to spin like a top and when he landed to give me his best smile. So cute!
Thank you for hiring me to capture these fun moments!

It's the perfect time of the year to update your photos and capture family pictures for holiday cards. During the Fall, I offer traditional and lifestyle mini and regular portrait photo sessions.
Fall Mini Photoshoot vs. a Regular Fall Photoshoot
A mini photoshoot is basically a short photo session. They typically last 30-minutes and are limited to five or less people within a group. Sessions are conducted in one primary location and include a smaller number of edited images to choose from and purchase a la carte.
A regular photoshoot offers more flexibility due to the extra time. Sessions last 60-90 minutes and can include more than five people within the group. Outfit changes and multiple shoot locations are optional during the scheduled time. A larger number of edited images will be available to choose from and purchase a la carte. This is a popular option for engagements, family, maternity and senior pictures.

This is Mark! We met earlier this month at the Winchester Library, to capture his senior portraits and yearbook photo. The day of his session was incredibly cold. I remember looking at my phone just before the we started and it said 32 degrees. Brrr!! Mark did not complain at all during our 60 minute photo shoot....amazing!
I really like the look of back-lit portraits as they often create a soft round bokeh (circles that look like bubbles) in the background.

A sunflower field backdrop is exactly what Kristina wanted for her senior yearbook photo. Timing is everything when you're planning a nature photo shoot with flowers that only bloom for 14 days! Luckily, Tangerini Farm has three beautiful sunflower fields that bloom every four weeks or so starting in late July. I photographed Kristina's senior session a week after Labor Day, just as their last field began to bloom. This is a snapshot of some of the lovely images we captured for her gallery.
Have a great senior year Kristina!

]]>A few years ago, Ashley and her grandmother took a road trip to see Colby Farm's sunflowers. During that visit, Ashley decided that she wanted a sunflower field backdrop for her senior portraits. I think it's so great that many high schools are allowing seniors to submit creative portraits to use as their yearbook photo. When I was a senior, that wasn't an option. Every student was photographed by the same photographer with the same backdrop. Today, senior portrait photographers can offer their clients a unique photography experience, based upon their personal preferences and style...I love that I can offer a wide variety of outdoor session locations and nature backdrops to my own clients!
I met Ashley and her mom for an early evening / sunset session. We had a great time exploring the farm and capturing photos in the gorgeous sunflower field. These are some of our favorite images from her session.
The sun's glow quickly changed from golden yellow to orange and red just before it set for the night!
Have a great senior year Ashley!

Sunflower fields have become one of my most favorite spots to photograph clients in nature. The flowers have this magical way of bringing joy to people as soon as you enter the field. Smiles come easy especially when your enjoying the flowers with someone you love! These adorable sisters had so much fun in Colby Farm's beautiful field. We captured so many great shots.....that their mom had a hard time choosing her favorites! These are some of my favorites from their photo shoot.

Standing in the middle of a sunny Sunflower field is an AWESOME experience! Colby Farm has two gorgeous well maintained fields. One rolls along a hill side and the other is set back, beyond their corn field. The farm offers all kinds of produce and flowers, it's a really nice place to visit and enjoy an afternoon. I look forward to Labor Day weekend because it usually means that the sunflowers will be in full bloom, like they were this past Saturday. These are some of my favorite pictures from my photo shoot with this sweet family.
"Because I have a Sister I'll always have a Friend"
In 2020, I will be offering sunflower sessions from July - September, at a few different Massachusetts fields. If you'd like to join my session mailing list, please send me an note. I will start booking in April on a first come first serve basis.

The family created a festive party environment for all to enjoy! The tables were adorn with handmade photo centerpieces embellished with nautical anchors, as a nod to Tony's time in the service. Gold and teal balloons dressed up every corner of the room. A 12' candy table filled with yummy treats lined the back windows. A monitor with scrolling photos of Tony was set next to a hand-crafted "80 Years Ago in 1939" fun facts poster. In the middle of the room sat a beautifully decorated three tier Red Sox / Puzzle themed birthday cake. His family did an such an amazing job, it all looked so fantastic! As an event photographer / family storyteller, I live for photographing these details.
After lunch, his grandchildren took the dance floor to share another surprise. Tony enjoys doing all kinds of puzzles. With this in mind, they created a clever game. Tony had to call out and arrange his grandchildren in numerical order, by age, from left to right. One by one they lined up and revealed a large puzzle piece that they were holding behind their backs. The final puzzle revealed a cruise ship and on the backside it spelled "A L A S K A or bust". What an awesome gift! Here are some highlights from the party:
Happy Birthday, Tony!

Emma LOVES flowers and wanted them to be the main backdrop for her senior photos. We considered a few spots for the session and decided that the Boston Public Garden would be best. The garden never disappoints! The flower beds were filled with every color of the rainbow including the pink and purple flowers Emma hoped for; zinnas, salvia, petunias, lantanas.......SO many gorgeous blooms.
We had so much fun creating images that captured her beautiful smile and her personality!
I had this idea and she totally rocked it!
I really enjoy photographing high school seniors! They always arrive to the session happy, full of smiles and ready for whatever our photography adventure brings.
At the end of every senior session, I always capture a few portraits with Mom!
Have a great Senior Year Emma!

The weather on the day of their session was great, sunny and partly cloudy. If you are know anything about New England weather, you know it can change in an instant, and it did. The moment we set foot on the beach it began to rapidly deteriorate. Normally, I would reschedule the session but they were heading home the next day. The fog, wind, drizzle and the dew drops on my camera lens weren't going to stop their family fun!

Three Generations!
Photographing large extended family group portraits makes my heart happy, especially when the people are as nice as these folks! We lucked out with perfect summer weather for our evening photo session. The temperature was warm and the sea was very calm. You'd never know that we had severe thunderstorms the night before.
The Hingham Yacht Club is a special place for this family. It's like a second home where they like to spend time together. The property has gorgeous ocean views! You can see the World's End park and conservation area as well as the Boston skyline in the distance. Be sure to scroll to the end to see the sunset silhouette of the Boston. AMAZING!

Children are the best teachers! They show us how to find joy in the simple things, like playing by a stream on a brisk autumn day. This sweet little boy and his doting parents had the best time exploring the Wayside Inn Gristmill. It's a picturesque spot with old New England charm...perfect for family photography. These are some favorite images from their session gallery.
Sweet snuggles! I shot this through the leaves.
This little guy is going to be a BIG brother in January!
About The Wayside Inn Grist Mill
The mill was built under the direction of former property owner Henry Ford, and ground its first "grist" on Thanksgiving day, 1929. It's a water-powered mill, and uses two separate grinding-stones to produce the corn meal and wheat flour that is used in the Longfellow's Wayside Inn's baked goods.

a group photo for your business
and need a photographer?
I'm your girl! I am a Boston based portrait and event photographer, available for travel throughout New England. Organizing a large group photo session can be easily done with a little pre-planning. Once you've got everyone on board for the session date, I can help you with the details. Check out my 6 tips below to get started!
Tips to help prepare for your large group photography session
The key to a successful large group session starts with choosing one contact person. This person will be the coordinator of all. They are usually the one that makes the arrangements and makes the session payments for the group. They'll be responsible for all communications with me. In addition, they will be confirming the date and time, updating me on special requirements, emailing the list of "must-have" photos, signing the session contracts, coordinating the group shots and then after the session, spreading the word about when the images are ready to purchase. I will work very closely with this person to help ensure that the session runs smoothly and everybody enjoys their time together.
2. Select a Date and Time
Once everyone has committed to a date, select a time of day that works for the little ones in the group, especially the babies and small children that have a routine nap schedule. If they are generally happier in the morning it’s best to book an earlier photo session.
3. Choose your Photography style
Would you like a casual or more of a formal look for your photos? Your wardrobe style and the session location will help drive this decision. Outdoor sessions tend to have a casual feel. However, your wardrobe choice can make the photos feel more formal. Where do you envision your session to take place? Some popular choices include: the beach, a park, the top of a mountain, a backyard etc. or were you planning to book an inside venue for the celebration instead? See wardrobe tips under #4 below.
TIP! Before you decide upon the location, consider everyone in the group. Does anyone have a physical limitation that might make getting to a specific spot challenging?
4. Create a "must-have" photo list
This list is so important for me! I'll need to know who will be grouped together in the photos. This list will also keep everyone on track and the session time flowing properly. As an example, if I'm photographing a family from three generations, your must-have photo list may look like this:
Once the must-have photos are captured, there may be time for candid shots. Each family session is unique. The photos we capture will be a cherished keepsake for everyone.
What to wear is always a big question for every portrait photographer. In the first photo example above, the family is wearing a coordinating color palette of yellow, grey and turquoise. In the second photo, the family is wearing a mix of colors. The decision to coordinate or not to coordinate always comes down to personal preference.
TIP! If you want to coordinate your attire, pick one color palette with 3-4 in season coordinating colors. Here are some examples:
The color opportunities are endless, I can help guide you! Whatever combination you decide upon, make sure that at least one of the colors is a neutral like, denim, khaki, grey or off white. Instruct everyone to avoid bold patterns as they can be distracting in photos. Layering pieces like a cardigan sweater or scarf are good choices to add some pizzazz and contrast.
This list is totally optional! You don't have to bring any of these items but, you might find it helpful to have some on hand:
**If I had to choose what to bring, these would be my top choices!

Julia is a professional NBA cheerleader for the Boston Celtics. In June, we met at the Wayside Gristmill in Sudbury, MA to update her headshots and modeling portrait portfolio. We selected the gristmill property for our session because of it's lush greenery and natural beauty. It has some really nice shady areas with simple backgrounds that are perfect for portraits. During our hour long session, I captured a variety of; headshots, three quarter and full body poses, in both of her Celtics uniforms. Each image was carefully composed to showcase her personality and style! These are some of Julia's favorite images from her proof gallery.

Are you interested in macro photography and camera lenses designed to capture tiny details? The Nikkor 105mm 2.8 for Nikon is a specialty telephoto/macro prime lens that is capable of producing images up to a 1:1 magnification ratio for life size close-ups. This lens offers excellent optical performance on both digital and 35mm film format SLR cameras. It is a valuable lens for macro work, portraiture and general shooting.
Summary & Performance
Cost around $900 | Technical Highlights
Other Features - on the lens there are three toggles;
M/A - M: Controls whether the lens is in autofocus mode with manual override (M/A) or manual focus only mode (M).
Full - Infinity to 0.5m: Controls whether the lens will focus throughout its range (Full) or only in the "far" range (Inf-0.5m).
VR On - VR Off: Turns the vibration reduction system on (On) and off (Off).
Photo Examples

The Nikon 105mm f/2.8 lens is a great piece of glass especially for macro work. A tripod along with good lighting are key when focusing on small subjects. The ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element minimizes the chromatic aberrations (color fringing) and the Nano Crystal lens coating along with the elongated lens hood dramatically reduce ghosting and flare. The vibration reduction and the exceptional image quality are stand out features of this lens. I love the clean, sharp, fine details it produces. I have not tested the lens in low light as most my macro work is done in natural daylight.
Always try before you buy!
I would suggest trying to rent this lens before purchasing it. Google camera gear rental shops in your area or check out Borrow Lenses.
As a small business owner, I always recommend shopping locally whenever you can! For buying online, I like B&H Photo. They offer both new and used cameras and lens at competitive prices, and the customer service department is exceptional.

I am a lifelong Nikon user. If I had unlimited funds, I would definitely add a few more brands to my repertoire! Investing in camera gear is a big commitment. My advice is to always buy what you can afford and really enjoy using it! I captured some of my favorite photos with an old, lower megapixel DSLR including the photo below, which is hanging on the wall in a U.S. Coast Guard station right now! Invest in good glass, a great lens can sometimes be a bigger asset to you than an expensive camera.
I hope these tips were helpful! ~Jen
